How to Find the Best Cocktail in Your Town 2023

The Best Cocktails in San Carlos, CA 2023

If you're anything like me, you like to go out on occasion, and when you do you might want to have a satisfying adult beverage and hang out with your friends. Among my friends, they seem to pretty universally have elected me the "mayor" of all things in San Carlos, CA. I'll tell you my list, but I'll first open with how you might do this for yourself, where you live.

A Long Overdue 2-Year Progress Report on Me

Will Strohl 2019 Collage

Whoa… Can you believe that it’s been just over two years since I last blogged here on my personal website??? That’s mind-blowing. At least, for me, it is. I used to blog here all of the time. Well, I’m going to be blogging here more often now. There are many reasons for that. For one, I have stuff to say. Read on for some more the other prominent details.

A Year of Grief: Thoughts & Lessons Learned

Sabrina and I at Artesa in wine country

I would imagine that not everyone who reads my blog knows, but as of today, it marks a year that I’ve been going through the process we call grieving.  A year ago today, I went through the most traumatic thing a person could go through – I found the person I love more than anything in this world, passed away.  My soul mate, lying there, all of my hopes and dreams, lost and crushed in less than a second.  Nothing can prepare you for such an abundantly awful thing.  Nothing.  However, one thing is certain, almost no one on the planet is immune from this experience.  No one.

Don’t let the headline freak you out.  It’s not as bad as it sounds…  We’ll start with some background, and then I’ll tell you the details.

Ride with Chris Hammond and I After DotNetNuke World 2012

Will Strohl

Chris Hammond just announced that there will be an organized ride for anyone that wants to show up Saturday morning following DNN World.  It will be an early ride to ensure that we get some good weather and that we don’t interfere with anyone’s checkout times or plans.  Don’t worry if you are not a pro rider or don’t have your own gear.  We have that covered.  Chris found a bike rental place that will being all the gear you want.  Unfortunately, we won’t be able to pick up the bill.  Sorry.

How a Bicycle Saved My Life

How a Bicycle Saved My Life

One of the things I do fairly well with my life is to separate personal from community (business).  Whether it’s on the social networks, my blogs, or at events, I don’t generally tell anyone about things that are happening in my personal life.  Let’s be honest, most of our personal lives are not that exciting to those that are not already part of your personal life.  Most humans suffer from the “what have you done for me lately” mentality.  Everyone is looking for something that means more to them.  Well, I decided at Day of DotNetNuke Charlotte to change that trend for a very special exception…

WillStrohl.com Moves to Mandeeps Live Blog

Writing a Blog

Since WillStrohl.com has been up and running, its primary function or purpose has been to host my personal blog about many things, but mostly DotNetNuke.  During this time, it has always run on the “core” Blog Module.  Say what you want about the core blog module, but it has always been a very functional way to build and maintain a blog presence on DNN.  There has always been a way to accomplish anything you wanted using it, whether it was adding other modules to the page, adjusting the design, or simply recompiling the module with any adjustments I’ve needed.  I’ve traditionally had time to do this, all with the intention of helping to make the blog module a better module.  Though, I recently changed blog modules, and that’s what this article is about.

My First 20 Mile Bike Ride

Our bikes on the Bay Trail, behind Facebook

I for the first time in my life since I was a teenager am the proud owner of a bicycle.  Purchasing the bicycle was a conscious decision in an effort to have an easier barrier of entry to working out, and less of an excuse not to.  A bicycle is the perfect answer for me to burn time and energy on the way to and from work.  I can commute since I am only about 7 miles away.  For the times when it’s not so convenient, I can simply jump on the train with my bike.

Hanging out With My Klout Out!

Klout.com Headquarters: Front Door

Originally, Chris Hammond and I were planning to go to the #KloutDevNight meetup tonight to hang out with the good folks at Klout.com. Well, Chris got a hamstring cramp or something from too much DotNetNuke training and decided not to go.  So, I invited Kim to go with me, and off we went to the offices of Klout!  Overall, it was a great idea and I’d love to do it again!
